Position Summary

We are seeking a Risk Analyst – Middle Office to uphold and enhance our risk-management framework for natural-gas marketing and trading. Reporting to the Middle-Office Risk team, you’ll perform daily market-risk reporting, model development, limit monitoring, and audit support—partnering with Trading, Commercial, Legal, Compliance, and Finance to drive a robust, risk-aware culture at CFE International.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Risk Reporting & Metrics: Compute and report daily Value-at-Risk (VaR), P&L attribution, exposure metrics, and stress-test results for natural-gas positions. Provide weekly commentary on portfolio utilization, market events, and liquidity dynamics.
  • Price Verification & Valuations: Perform independent price checks and validate mark-to-market valuations contracts and physical nominations.
  • Model Development & Validation: Develop, maintain, and back-test quantitative risk models and methodologies for physical and financial natural-gas portfolios.
  • Limit & Collateral Monitoring: Monitor counterparty exposures against internal limits; support margin and collateral calls to ensure compliance with agreements.
  • Identify drivers of P&L changes, and support performance-analysis back-tests
  • Process Automation & Tools: Enhance risk-reporting workflows through Excel modeling, VBA, SQL queries, and ETRM systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Trading to understand deal structures and optionality; work with Scheduling on transportation impacts; liaise with Compliance and Legal on policy updates.
  • Audit & Governance Support: Prepare materials for internal and external audits, track remediation actions, and contribute to risk-policy and limit-framework enhancements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field.

Experience

  • 2+ years in market- or credit-risk analysis, middle-office operations, or equivalent—preferably within energy or commodity trading.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Advanced Excel (VBA), SQL, and familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical mindset with the ability to explain complex risk concepts simply.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented approach and ability to manage competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with daily risk reporting, VaR, stress testing, and P&L attribution.
  • Experience with ETRM/risk platforms (e.g., Openlink, RightAngle, Kiodex).
  • Strong command of natural-gas contract mechanics and pricing conventions.
